British Stammering Association Conference

Beitrag von Norbert » 24. Mai 2007 11:19

Let me be the first then! The 12th BSA Conference is taking place in Telford from 7-9 September 2007.

It would be nice if we could have as many people from abroad as possible (especially in the age of Ryan Air and Easyjet!). The Conferences are a great mixture of workshops, guest speakers and socialising. It's a good way of practising your English if it's not your first language, in a friendly and supportive environment. And then there's the disco....

Further details are available on http://www.stammering.org/conf.html

Hello there, dear readers,

Well, Norbert, the Britishers seem to be the fastest, hmm :) ... and the German-Britishers are even faster ... :D

Well, maybe Norbert you could give some links to English Web pages or the BSA ones ... Besides, does the BSA have a Forum, too?

Cheers, Micha.

Well, the BSA site is http://www.stammering.org - and you can find links to other web pages at http://www.stammering.org/links.html

I think we are agreed that you will be one of the main speakers at the Conference, in addition to Anita Blom from Sweden. If that doesn't pull in the punters I don't know what will.:-)

BSA doesn't have its own Forum - looking at this one, I think we'd need to monitor the content, for legal reasons if nothing else, but we haven't got the staff time. Also, there are already many English-speaking Forums [fora?] available so we'd only duplicate effort.

Hey, I might have time then (as opposed to the German BVSS meeting in October, sadly). Considering the cheap Ryanair fights, I'm interested.

Anyone else? We should track interest in this thread and, maybe, we can go to the conference as a small (inofficial) German delegation, that would be nice.

Dear all,

I just came back from the 12th BSA conference in Telford. Right now I just spend some days in Cambridge memorizing the wonderful time I had during the days in Telford.
Well, there were a lot of interesting workshops and talks to many people with different backgrounds. In fact it was also quite international (e.g. Russia, Holland, Nepal, Sweden, Germany) not forgetting all the different cultures the English participants may have (Guinea-Bissau, India, Malaysia, Portugal, Germany) as well as the people from Wales, Ireland and Scotland. So, a German BuKo must seem to be quite colourless in some way :) … maybe a good idea for the future: make the BuKos more international … Rachel Everard from England is a well-known and well-seen (my own poor translation for “gern gesehener”, I guess) guest and also the people from Austria … and still, we could really make the BuKos even much more open-minded, meaning more international. I really would appreciate that. So, maybe everyone can activate her or his own contacts ...

I also found the workshops quite professional (and most of them also shorter in time - 30, 60 or 90 minutes) and it is noticeable, I guess, that all of the distributors worked for free and paid the Conference fee (whereas in the BuKo they got paid quite a big honorarium). This is one of the big differences to the German congress and after seeing and experiencing this I really would like you to think about a change of the BuKo workshop concept (also see this thread in German: http://forum.bvss.de/viewtopic.php?t=741). A "Call for Workshops" approach would be much more interesting, I think. What do you think about that?

Well, last but not least I would like to thank the organisers of the conference, in particular the “Mädchen für alles”, Norbert Lieckfeldt (hope, he doesn’t mind the … :)) for giving the conference such a convenient frame.

Well, maybe I will come back next year … Micha(el) Winkler.

Beitrag von Michael13 » 3. November 2007 03:19

Hello dear all,

if you want to download the presentation (title: "Stuttering – Problem or Challenge for People who Stutter and Society?") I was giving at this year's BSA conference in Telford, you can do so at http://www.lebe-dein-stottern.de ... somewhere a bit down and after many German words :) ...

I will also try to put the script of the talk on the web asap.

Enjoy downloading ... everything can be used.

Yours Micha.
